The Joshua Tree Casita (Before Photos!)

Well, this is long overdue! As you may know, last year we bought the Joshua Tree House which we spent the summer working on and have now been renting on Airbnb since September. We loved creating a lasting experience so much, that we decided to do it again!!

We closed on a new property in Joshua Tree in January, and finally got our butts down to Joshua Tree in March to start the many many projects we have in mind. While the property is already spectacular in many ways (views, CACTI, tortoises, hummingbirds, and sooo much character), it really is in need of some updates and good old love and attention.

The property has two houses on it, one of which we’re living in right now (the hacienda), and the other is a current construction zone (the casita). Both properties came furnished, and while we have discovered some really cool pieces already in the house there was also a lot we wanted to replace. There’s a ton to share, so I’m just going to show you the casita photos in this post. We’re trying our very best to focus, and get that house done first!

Here are a few of the real estate listing photos:

Someone apparently had a thing for closets. Not only was the kitchen built into a closet, but the living room had TWO closets in the center of the space. One of our first projects was tearing those down so that we could have an open space. The casita feels 10x bigger now! (See below)

It may be a mess, but I’m starting to see how awesome the space is going to be!! Ok, back to real estate photos:

This room also had two closets! Since one seems pretty reasonable, the one in this photo is gone now as well.

Here’s the second bedroom. The french doors in here look out to views and boulders!! The faux finishes on the wall and the yellow popcorn ceilings however… those are going. (Gone already actually, ha!)

More fun in the bathroom… heh.

Now for the fun part, here’s where our vision is headed. We’re seeing a rustic modern house with a loungey attitude. We’re bringing in the peaches of the sand, and the reds of the sky, and keeping the living room to these warm monochromatic hues.

We’re also replacing the ceiling in the living room to be a wooden beamed ceiling. We’ve been waking up early and spending evenings staining the wood to a walnut color. I can’t wait to show you more progress on that!!

Hello! I just ran across your website (initially through AirBnB browsing!) and I love everything about your style! If you’re still furnishing the Casita, you should take a look at some of my lighting designs:
