About this time last year, we were at Desert + Denim with our favorite sisters Megan and Jen Mussari, dreaming about creating a Joshua Tree bandana together. We wanted the whole bandana to be inspired by the plants and animals that live here, and ultimately go to benefit the natural world.
We’re excited to have these bandanas up for sale today, hand dyed with cochineal (a bug that grows on cacti) by Megan of Apprvl, and illustrated by Jen Mussari. All profits for the first 100 bandanas sold will go directly to benefit the Mojave Desert Land Trust’s Protect 62 Campaign.
The bandana illustrates the phases of the sun and moon, and the animals that would be seen during those times of day. During the day in Joshua Tree, you might come across a desert tortoise, lizard, or bighorn sheep. At dusk, you’ll find the roadrunner, snake, and coyotes making their last moves of the day, transitioning for the nighttime creatures like the tarantula and scorpion.
