As Rich mentioned in his Weekend Reads post, we bought a house!!! Here’s the fun and complicated part: it’s our second home, but we don’t own a first home. And, we’re going to be renting it on Airbnb!
We first visited Joshua Tree, CA a year ago and fell absolutely in love with it. It’s a place that instantly relaxes and inspires – there’s something in the air there. We joke that rather than dating Joshua Tree, we just asked it to marry us. On our second visit, we started hunting for a property to buy.
The way we found our perfect house was not through a real estate agent. Like most of the best things in our lives, we found it on Craigslist. The owner had put up a posting wanting to pass this house on to the next owner, the way that she had been chosen by the previous owner ten years ago. It almost feels like the home is being passed down to us… though we still have to pay for it. Ha!
Above is the front yard and driveway. The property is filled with natural desert plant life including Joshua Trees, creosotes, and cholla cacti.
It’s one of the oldest homes in Joshua Tree – a two bed, two bath 1949 hacienda built next to the Joshua Tree Inn. Rich and I head down to the house this week to decorate the space, and get it ready to share it with anyone else that loves JT as much as we do.
We love a good behind the scenes design process, so we’ll be sharing everything here on the blog. Today, you get a few before photos of how it looked the day we toured it! I’m so looking forward to sharing more. We’ll start with the empty home through the final designs before it’s ready to rent. Even I don’t know exactly how it will all turn out. Buy hey, that’s the exciting part!
That is so great, congrats!!
Thank you!! We’re so excited!
